Our Mission and Purpose
This is a student organization comprising students who are interested in “Dance” as a form of recreation, competitive achievement, physical development, entertainment, recruitment, and community outreach. Members of the organization demonstrate several styles of dance, including but not limited to lyrical, modern, hip-hop, ballet, and interpretative.
- To develop a rich intellectual background in the art of Dance
- To develop symmetrical bodily forms, choreographed artistic dances, and promote the art of dance at Jackson State University
- To provide an emotional outlet for free expression
- To encourage self-expression and creativity through the art of Dance
- To facilitate the continuing education of dance as a traditional form of expression
- To compete in dance competitions; local, regional, and national
- To hold at least one annual performance on campus every year to exhibit our growth individually and as a group.
J-suede performs primarily at official athletics, recruitment, and school-sponsored events, and often performs in the Jackson Metro Area and competes in the south-eastern region of the United States. J-SUEDE also serves as a recruitment tool for the university. As such, its members are expected to uphold certain academic and moral standards. Our members represent a cross-section of various majors available to students at Jackson State University.
